Diploma in Journalism

Journalism is a high public calling; therefore this Diploma offers students the necessary skills to further a lasting career in the media industry. The three-year course focuses on grooming and equipping students with strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to report on various issues. The Diploma also gives a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of newsroom techniques, as well as covering in detail the legal and ethical aspects required.

Duration

The programme duration is 3 years on a full-time basis, or 4 years on a part-time basis.

Certification

On successful completion of the programme, you will receive an ICESA Diploma in Journalism.

Admission Requirements

• A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Diploma endorsement, or
• A National Certificate Vocational (NCV) at NQF Level 4 with Diploma endorsement, or
• Amended Senior Certificate (ASC), with Diploma endorsement, or
• A Senior Certificate (SC); or
• Foreign School leaving Certificate that complies with minimum admission requirements for Diploma study as gazetted by the Matriculation Board (Equivalency evaluation is completed with the Matriculation Board)

Alternative admission requirements

• Senate discretionary admission
• Mature Age (45 years of age and above): Conditions apply
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Additional requirements

• Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy and English at NQF level 4 or equivalent
• Foreign applicants whose first language is not English, may be required to provide proof of proficiency in English prior to admission to the programme

ICESA may require appropriate combinations of subjects and levels of achievement for certain qualifications.
